CLDD project resources for complex educational needs
In 2011, SSAT undertook in-depth research into ways to improve outcomes for children and young people with the most complex educational needs and disabilities through the development of evidence-based teaching and learning strategies. From this research, we have compiled CLDD resources to support the teaching and learning for complex learning difficulties and disabilities.
The programme of research brought together a multidisciplinary team of researchers and advisors with specialisms across education, health, psychology, therapies and neuroscience. The research led to the development of the engagement profile. The elements of the profile were highlighted within the recent Rochford report and are about to be part of a wider pilot, which will explore how progress can be measured using the seven areas of the engagement profile for learners not yet engaged in subject-specific learning.
Staff based in SSAT member schools can access a wide range of CLDD resources and information from the research including the Project Report and Briefing Packs.
The briefing packs have been designed in response to the growing number of students in the school system with complex needs. There are 10 different packs on conditions which commonly co-exist with others, where there may not be clear, easily accessible, education-focused resources currently available. Each pack contains a briefing sheet, a classroom support sheet and an information sheet providing more in-depth descriptions.
Note: The research these resources are based on is over 10 years old and is presented for historical reference. While the information remains valuable it is assumed that readers will supplement their research through more recent sources. The web links referenced may no longer be active.
