SSAT Journal 17 – Spring/Summer 2020
The Spring/Summer 2020, edition of the SSAT Journal, features various articles from different contributors covering diverse topics in education. The Journal starts with a welcoming message from Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT, reflecting on the challenges faced during the Coronavirus pandemic and expressing gratitude to educators for their efforts.
The publication includes an article by Janice Allen, headteacher of Falinge Park High School, discussing the school’s transformation through the implementation of Bobby Kennedy’s Ripples of Hope educational programme. The programme focuses on human rights and empowering students to make a difference in their school and community.
Eve Gillmon, Pam Kemp, Chris Gerry, and Frank Green contribute to articles looking back at the Vision 2020 project, which sought to use technology to bring about cultural shifts in schools. The authors discuss the achievements and challenges faced in implementing the vision over the past two decades.
Other articles cover topics such as approaches to learning for middle attainers, work experience, pathways to employment for SEND pupils, supporting young people with SEND to find work, creating unimagined futures, creating a self-improving system for teacher performance development, and making every teacher a leader of learning.
The Journal also delves into the importance of each school having its own approach to teaching, a school’s experience under the new Ofsted framework, and promoting staff well-being through an outward mindset. The issue concludes with a call for a focus on deep social justice, with contributions from SSAT.
The SSAT Journal is a benefit available to all staff members located in SSAT member schools.
