Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT, responds to Education Secretary Gavin Williamson’s announcement on 2021’s GCSE, AS- and A-level exams
SSAT is pleased that schools, young people and parents know what will be happening regarding examinations in the summer.
It is certainly not a perfect solution – some children and young people have experienced considerably more disruption than others. It is important every year that young people are given the opportunity to show what they know and can do.
We cannot understand why the Secretary of State has not cancelled the primary school SATs. We hope he will listen carefully to the advice of the expert group and to school leaders – next steps are critical.
