A new partnership between the Chartered College of Teaching and SSAT will support teachers to embed formative assessment practices in their classrooms.
SSAT’s flagship CPD programme, Embedding Formative Assessment (EFA), was originally developed by Professor Dylan Wiliam. It is a two year whole-school programme using teacher learning communities to explore and embed effective formative assessment techniques. Teachers take part in cycles of deliberate practice, trialling formative assessment strategies, collaborating with colleagues to reflect on practice and evidence, and being challenged to deepen their knowledge and refine their teaching. Based on over 25 years of research, EFA has shown to deliver up to 25% improvement in learning outcomes for only 1% of teachers’ time.
By completing SSAT’s EFA programme, teachers will be able to apply for Recognition of Prior Certificated Learning (RPCL) and 20 credits towards Chartered Teacher status.
Dame Alison Peacock, CEO of the Chartered College of Teaching said:
I am delighted to strengthen our partnership with SSAT whose professional development programmes help leaders and teachers to improve outcomes for all young people and develop leadership at all levels across the system. Formative assessment is central to effective teaching and this inspirational programme will help teachers to refine their practice while building strong learning communities. We look forward to working with SSAT with the shared goal of deepening teachers’ knowledge and improving education for all children and young people.
Professor Dylan Wiliam said:
I am delighted that the Chartered College of Teaching is partnering with SSAT to recognise the achievements of teachers participating in the Embedding Formative Assessment programme. We know that developing the practice of formative assessment is one of the most powerful ways that teachers can improve their practice, and the fact that it is now possible to have this work accredited by the Chartered College provides a fitting recognition of the efforts of teachers to make their teaching more responsive to their students’ needs.
Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT said:
Collaboration is a key ingredient of a successful education system, and we are delighted to be partnering with the Chartered College to support teachers to embed formative assessment practices in their classrooms. We share the same values and passion for developing teachers.
