SSAT Teaching and Learning Toolkit

By SSAT

SSAT’s Teaching and Learning Toolkit is designed to stimulate professional learning through the use of video extracts from accredited Lead Practitioners describing their portfolio and professional development journey through the process of LP accreditation. The video extracts are not to be seen as providing a ‘silver bullet’ but to introduce a teaching and learning topic area that can be investigated further within the school context.

Ideally, the T&L Toolkit will be utilised with small groups of staff, over a 60-minute session. It is recommended that each topic is presented in short cycles of professional learning over four weeks:

  • Week 1 – Workshop 1: Introduction to the topic and school context.
  • Week 2 – In-Practice
  • Week 3 – In-Practice
  • Week 4 – Workshop 2: Reflection and next steps
  • Week 5 – Repeat cycle for new topic.

Included within the T&L Toolkit is:

  • An online collection of videos that demonstrate exemplary teaching and learning portfolios.
  • A user guide for leaders of professional development (PD) in schools to help navigate through the materials available.
  • A suite of professional development materials to enable a PD lead in school to plan and deliver professional learning for colleagues centred around the teaching and learning topics referenced in the video extracts. Topics include metacognitive approaches, phonics, SEND, learner voice, and many more.
  • A reference list of research and evidence for a number of topic areas to supplement or extend thinking in either workshop 1 or 2.
  • A range of additional reading including academic research, websites/blogs and additional materials related to the LP portfolio topics where appropriate.
