Publication Date: 2022

The Summer 2022 edition of the SSAT Journal includes articles and interviews with educators and school leaders discussing different aspects of teaching and learning and school improvement. In this edition, Sue Williamson, the Chief Executive of SSAT, reflects on the academic year’s end and emphasises the importance of investing in new ideas and professional development in schools. The journal features an interview with Redborne Upper School, where they discuss their successful programme of one-on-one tutoring to improve outcomes for students receiving pupil premium support.

Other articles focus on supporting students’ mental health and well-being, with Hannah Howsham from Witton Park Academy talking about their mission to empower students by interrupting negative patterns. Bronagh McGreevy from St Louis Grammar School shares insights into their targeted mentoring programme.

The journal covers various topics, including guided reading, effective questioning in education, and practical ways to make Mandarin work in your school. Bentley Wood High School for Girls’ Anthropology Society explores the question “What does it mean to be human?”

Gabriella Moores from GEMS Founders School in Dubai advocates for giving students a stronger voice and leadership roles in education. Lastly, Mary-Anne Metcalfe from The Oaks Secondary School discusses the “Girl Empower” initiative, which aims to empower female students through science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education.

The SSAT Journal is a benefit available to all staff members located in SSAT member schools.
