Student and Pupil Leadership
Our understanding of student and pupil leadership and voice is drawn from excellent practice across our networks and built on SSAT’s previous work on personalising learning. We know that, when given the opportunity, young people can have a profound impact on their schools. Involvement in leadership and voice activities can improve students’ and pupils’ learning as well as helping them to develop the skills and traits needed for success outside of the classroom.
Making Student Leadership Effective
Our new online delivery includes pre-recorded content and materials and a live seminar with Sylvia King. The course is for any teacher or leader with responsibility or oversight of student leadership to ensure that your student leadership teams make the most of the year ahead.

Our new online delivery includes pre-recorded content and a live seminar with Laura Burton. The course is for any pastoral staff, teacher or leader with responsibility for pupil leadership to ensure that you have the skills and confidence to develop in your role in your unique school context.
Making Student Leadership Effective in Special Schools and Specialist Settings
This new online course includes pre-recorded content and a live seminar with Pauline Holbrook. The course is for any colleagues in specialist settings including those with responsibility for pupil leadership in primary/all through special schools. The course is structured to ensure that you have the skills and confidence to develop in your role in your unique school context.
How to Train Your Student Leaders
SSAT’s How to train your student leaders programme will provide you with the knowledge, confidence and all the practical resources you need to deliver your own training to develop your student leaders.
In School Training for Students
Delivered by an experienced SSAT Education Lead, each workshop session is three hours long and involves interactive activities to help students practice and embed the relevant skills. Workshops can be delivered on a date and time convenient to you with a group of up to 30 students. You can also combine two workshops into a full day of fun and learning. All participants will receive a certificate to show they have completed SSAT accredited training.
Student and Pupil Leadership Accreditation
SSAT has developed both the Student Leadership Accreditation (SLA) for secondary and Pupil Leadership Accreditation (PLA) for primary to be an innovative way of formally recognising students’ leadership skills, encompassing all activities students are engaged in whether it’s in the classroom, across the school, or in the wider community.
Student Passport
Academic achievement is important but preparing students for life after education requires more than this. The SSAT Student Passport provides a framework for students to record a huge range of life experiences beyond the academic with the aim of enriching their cultural capital, engaging them in citizenship and preparing them for employment.
