Congratulations to the new secretary of state

Sue Williamson, Chief Executive SSAT, writes…Sue Williamson

SSAT would like to congratulate Nicky Morgan on her appointment as secretary of state for education in yesterday’s reshuffle. We hope that over the coming weeks and into the new academic year, Nicky engages with the profession in a meaningful way, developing reciprocal and trusting relationships.

We also hope that school leaders and teachers will recognise, in the light of yesterday’s changes, that whilst politicians come and go, real school transformation is achieved by the profession itself. At SSAT we strongly believe that the best way to develop our system is for the profession to drive improvement and innovation, in partnership with policymakers, parents, employers, governors, and (most importantly) students.

We wish the best of luck to Nicky in supporting schools to achieve the best outcomes for every one of their young people.
